Book Business Plan

You’re interested in having a book, but you’re not sure what your book would be about, how you’d use it for your business, or how you’d get it published.

Or you do know all that, but you’re not sure how much it would cost, how long it would take, and what it would look like from a project management standpoint.

Our Book Business Plan can help. It will give you clarity on:

  • What you want your book to achieve for you and your business
  • Who your ideal reader is and what transformation your book will bring them through
  • What topics your book will cover (including a rough outline)
  • How long it will take to complete your book’s manuscript
  • What you’ll need to do (or hire someone to do) to publish, launch, and market your book
  • How much time and money you should expect to invest in your book

The Book Business Plan includes:

Step 1: Call #1: A one-hour recorded working consultation to discuss and define:
  • Your goals for your book
So you are clear about what you want to achieve with this project and how you will define success for it. And, of course, how you’ll achieve those goals.
  • Your ideal reader (preferably your ideal client)
So you develop the book with them in mind from the very beginning. This ensures your book is helpful and lays the foundation for your book to be successful for both you and your readers.
  • The transformation your book will take your reader through
How will your readers be different once they’ve read your book? This is the transformation. Once we know the transformation, the outline for your book falls into place rapidly.
Step 2: We do a competitive analysis of comparable books.
  • Research on what other books have been published on your topic, or in your niche.
What did readers like or not like about them? Who wrote these books, and what kind of marketing engine do they have behind their book? Competitive analysis tends to surface information that will be critical to the success of your book.
  • Choosing Amazon categories and keywords.
We’ll use two paid analysis tools to pick the perfect categories for your book.
Step 3: Call #2: A one-hour recorded working consultation to discuss and define:
  • How involved you want to be in the process, and what that will mean for getting your book done.
Do you want to write your book, or hire a ghostwriter? Have an audio book? Include a guest chapter?
  • Your options for publishing, including book size, cover, book length, etc.
We’ll walk you through all the aspects of getting your book published so you’ll have a final product you love.
  • How you want to handle lead generation and drive business with your book.
Do you want to encourage readers to sign up for your email list, join a community, fill out an assessment, or schedule a call with you? How much content do you want to offer as resources for the book? How will people access that content? We’ll figure all this out and make a plan.
  • Which book marketing tactics are most suited to your personality and available time and budget.
In some ways, the journey starts after your book is published. We’ll lay out a plan based on proven best practices for marketing your book, and we’ll talk about how to repurpose your book into social media posts, newsletter content, and more.
Step 4: You receive your deliverables:
  • Transcripts and recordings of each call.
  • A pdf of your complete book business plan, documenting everything we’ve discussed on the calls, including your goals for the book, the ideal reader, the transformation, the competitive analysis and more.
  • A rough calendar of major dates for your book’s manuscript, publication, launch, and marketing.
  • A publication plan, to-do list, and calendar with recommended providers.
  • A basic launch plan, to-do list, and calendar with recommended providers.
  • A basic lead generation plan, to-do list, and calendar with recommended providers.
